Preparation for work courses

This course builds skills that are especially useful for accounting work experience, such as CV Writing, job Search, Interview skills, Employability & Work place skills and expectations, Digital skills and review of job search.

This course helps you develop the key skills needed to succeed in the workplace, including communication, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, and workplace ethics.

You will learn how to manage tasks effectively, and understand what employers expect in real work settings.

By the end of the course, you will feel more prepared for work placements and future employment opportunities within an office work environment.

Level 1, Business Administration

01st May 2026 - 29th May 2026

Days: Friday

Time: 09:30 to 15:00

Duration: 6 Weeks

Our Business Administration, course helps to build essential communication methods, knowledge and practical business and employability skills using MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

The course also covers basic to customer service skills and working effectively in a team.

Through hands-on activities, you’ll strengthen your digital skills, understand key business concepts, and feel more prepared for employment.

By the end of the course, you will have a clearer understanding of basic business concepts and the next steps towards work, further learning, or furthering your own business ideas .

Level 1, Essential Digital Skills

07th April 2026 - 26th May 2026

Location: Pollards Hill Library

Days: Tuesday

Time: 09:30 to 15:00

Duration: 8 Weeks

This course builds essential IT skills and knowledge needed for work in office and technical environments. You will learn how to use key software to present information, create spreadsheets, produce documents, and complete a range of digital tasks.

The course also covers basic to intermediate Excel software skills and digital technology used in administrative and entry-level IT roles. Through practical activities, you will build confidence in using computer software safely and effectively to carry out computations, set in formula and deliver work place documents.

Through hands-on activities, you’ll strengthen your digital skills, understand key business concepts, and feel more prepared for employment.

By the end of the course, you will feel more confident using MS Excel and applying IT skills in study, work, or everyday life.

ESOL skills for life, Entry Level 1, 2, 3

11th March 2026 - 26th May 2026

Location: SMCA and or Colliers Library

Days: Wednesday & Thursday

Time: 09:30 to 15:00

Duration: 6 Weeks

This course is designed for learners who are 16-19 or adult learner whose native language is not English and who live in the UK.

The course provides learners the skills such as reading, writing, speaking and listening to prepare for life and employment.

This course is ideal for learners who have different language needs arising from their diverse language, educational and professional/employment backgrounds

By the end, you will have the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to prepare you for life and employment or career development.

At the end of the course, learners will have the opportunity to progress to either:

  • Further education and learning
  • Apprenticeships
  • Employment
  • Self-Employment
